St.Louis to Kansas

Now for those up close pictures! At 10:30 in the morning we were waiting in line for the tram up the St.Louis Gateway Arch. When the line was over we were put in a very small tram for a 4 minute ride up to the top. I would definitely NOT recommend this if you are claustrophobic or afraid of heights. Because, at the top of the arch you are 630 feet above ground, this is the tallest man made building in the U.S, and you are filled in a small narrow room with a load of other tourists, like yourself, taking pictures and crowding the windows. But if you are fine with all this, and you manage to get to the windows, the view is amazing. You can also see very clearly the court where the Dread Scott Case was debated. Then you go back down in a 3 minute ride. After our ride down we took more pictures. Then we drove to Salina, Kansas, and past the school where Brown vs the Board of Education took place. Salina is in the middle of nowhere and the begging of the plains outside that will apparently last till we hit the Rocky Mountains. But it is the town in which one of my and my mother’s favorite books take place in. So for me being here brings comfort. -Addie

  1. AWESOME PICS! I love the little history lesson I get in each blog too. Glad you're out of Tennessee, I drove through Tennessee once the long way, it was the longest drive of my life! Good Old Rocky Top though. I don't know if I could have done the tram car, you guys are braver than I (me?). Love the pics, love you guys!

  4. Now that is what I'd call "up in the air". Booka would have had a stroke. Seems like it was a very apt description, by the way. I am loving the little history lesson that goes with each stop, as well. Keep up the stories.
