Colorado

This should really be written by the kids but we get home late and tired and I know you all are waiting anxiously for an update, so I am writing tonight. A quick description of everything we have been doing so far: we stopped at Granny Barb’s house and went for (real) Mexican food. Yum. Then on our first full day we hiked outside of Bailey Colorado, for about 6 miles. Very hot, cool reviver crossings, and no people! We drove by the house I grew up in (there is a pic of my hometown, since we showed you Rachel’s. The pic is the one with the highway going through it. This is Aspen Park, Colorado) and ate at the big hot dog. Here is a little secret, I let the kids drive the car. They each took turn behind the wheel for about a mile or two. It was easy mountain roads with no cars on them. I figured if they were good enough for me to learn on, they were good enough for the kids. Then we went to the Rockies game with my old college roommate, Jim. It was a first train ride for Harry (light rail). It was a beautiful night, unless you are a Rockies fan because they stunk on ice. Next day I took the kids downtown to see the Capitol building, yes that is real gold flake on the roof of the Capitol. We stood on the step of the building that is exactly 1 mile above sea level (5,280 feet, so you don’t have to look it up).
The night of the 4th, we went to the Colorado Rapids soccer game with some of my old teammates. We tailgated (another first for the young ‘uns), and Tony got us on the field passes before the game to see the players warm up. Very cool! We saw about ¼ of the game before the lighting came. Then the rain. Then the hail. We huddled under a thin umbrella and crammed in tight spaces with several thousand other people. We left, soaked, before the fireworks show. Tomorrow we hike again. It feels like we have been gone a month already. I had a very vivid dream last night that sort of shook me a little, but I wont get in to that. I will let the kids fill in the blanks, if they have any energy left.
