West Virginia to Tennessee
We now return to our trip, day 2. We left off in a small town (Weston) in West Virginia. After a hardy hotel breakfast we set out to find a hiking trail, only to get a 3 minute walk up hill onto the Stonewall Jackson dam. Then we waited in the humid heat for half an hour for the opening of the Tran Aleghany Insane Asylum. The place opened in 1861 originally meant for civil war patients who were losing their marbles. There were rooms made for 250 people but they ended up carrying 2600 people. This is one of the reasons it shut down in 1994. Many of the patients died in housing there. Our tour guide also let us communicate with a ghost of the dead by knocking on a door and getting a response. Thus convincing us that it is definitely, without a doubt, haunted. Then we drove down through Virginia into Tennessee where we will spend the next 2 days. If we don’t all die from the southern heat that we Rochester common folk cant handle we will get back to you soon. -Addie
No way could you get me to walk through a haunted asylum!! You all are either much braver than me...or much crazier and then I guess you were in the right place!
ReplyDeleteI am surprised they let your dad leave! 😁
DeleteI think the old psych bulding on Elmwood has a similar feel with a 20th century look. Maybe when you’re jome and reminiscing anout the trip a field trip will be in order!
ReplyDeleteI can't believe this building was only meant for 250 people and ended up carrying so many more!
ReplyDeleteI'm so jealous! There was a time in my life (not so long ago) when I was a little too obsessed with watching "Paranormal Activity" on A&E.
